About Crete-Manufacture — who we are, what we do, and where we're headed

By Mein Shop Admin

Crete-Manufacture is a small German company with deep roots in Crete. We import and sell Cretan food products: olive oil, oregano, thyme, sea salt, and herb salt. Directly from the producers in the Gouves region on the north coast of Crete. No wholesalers, no anonymous bulk quantities, no intermediate stages that compromise quality. We know the farms, we know the harvest, and we know what's in every bottle.

How Crete-Manufacture came to be

The starting point wasn't a business idea, but a childhood. Growing up in Crete, the island left its early mark: a sense of quality that doesn't need to be explained because you can taste it. The connections to local producers in Gouves, to olive growers, herb gatherers, and sea salt producers, grew over years, long before Crete-Manufacture existed. We recently moved back to the island. Close to the groves, close to the people who produce what we sell. At some point, the question arose: Why should these products only be available here? The answer was Crete-Manufacture.

Our products: what we sell and why

All our products come from the Gouves region. Calcareous soils, sea wind, over 300 days of sunshine. These conditions create a quality that is reflected in measurable values: Koroneiki olive oil with an acidity of less than 0.25%, oregano with up to 4% carvacrol, hand-harvested sea salt from natural rock pools on the south coast. We consciously sell a small, clearly defined assortment. Five products that complement each other and together form the basis of Cretan cuisine: olive oil carries, oregano characterizes, thyme complements, sea salt finishes, herb salt combines. More on this: Cretan Cuisine: the 5 most important ingredients.

Direct from the producer: what that actually means

Olive oil directly from the producer is not a marketing term. It means: We know which grove the olive oil comes from, when it was harvested, and how long it took between harvest and pressing. We know the farms personally. We visit them, we taste on-site, and we jointly decide what gets bottled. This limits our quantities, and that's intentional. What we offer is what is actually available and what meets our requirements. Nothing more.

What we are currently building

Crete-Manufacture is under construction. We are finalizing our online shop, with a focus on transparency: origin, harvest year, acidity, everything traceable. In parallel, a recipe blog with Cretan dishes tailored to our products, and a blog with background articles on quality, origin, and cultivation are being created. If you want to stay up to date, you can subscribe to our newsletter. We will inform you when it's ready, without spam and without weekly emails. Olivenfelder Kreta Crete-Manufacture

What we plan to do: our vision

Crete-Manufacture aims to be more than just an online shop. We are thinking about ways to make the connection between Crete and our customers more direct and tangible. Olive grove tours: We are planning guided visits to the olive groves around Gouves, for people who want to understand how Cretan olive oil is truly made. Not as a tourist attraction, but as a genuine insight into the producers' work. Harvest, mill, tasting. Tree sponsorships: An idea we are developing: the possibility to adopt an olive tree in Gouves. The sponsor receives the oil from their tree, a direct, personal connection to a product they then know themselves. These endeavors are plans, not promises. Those interested are invited to subscribe to our newsletter.

Why we do this

Cretan agriculture is under pressure. Small businesses struggle against industrial production, which is cheaper but not better. We believe there is a market for products where origin and quality are truly traceable. Not as a premium promise on a pretty label, but as a genuinely verifiable fact. If we can help the businesses in Gouves to continue their work under fair conditions, that is an outcome that is important to us.

Conclusion

Crete-Manufacture stands for a direct connection between Crete and the German market. Olive oil directly from the producer, Cretan herbs from natural cultivation, hand-harvested sea salt. All from one region, all with proven origin. What we are building is not a promise, but a process. If you want to be part of it from the beginning, subscribe to the newsletter, stay informed, and follow how an idea turns into a company that delivers what it promises.
