About Crete-Manufacture: Who We Are, What We Do and Where We Are Going
Crete-Manufacture is a small German company with deep roots on Crete. We import and sell Cretan foods: oregano, thyme, sea salt, herbal salt and olive oil. Whatever is currently available is shown in the shop. Directly from small farms on the island, mainly from the region around Gouves on the north coast, where our roots are. No wholesaler, no anonymous bulk lots, no intermediate stages that cost quality. We know the farms, we know the harvest, and we know what is in every bottle.
How Crete-Manufacture came about
The starting point was not a business idea, it was a childhood. Growing up on Crete, the island left behind what it leaves behind: a sense for quality that needs no explanation, because you taste it. The connections to local producers in Gouves, to olive farmers, herb gatherers and sea salt harvesters, grew over many years, long before Crete-Manufacture existed. Today we are on the island regularly, close to the groves and close to the people who make what we sell. At some point the question came up: why should these products only be available here? The answer was Crete-Manufacture.Who is behind it
Crete-Manufacture is run by its founder, who grew up on Crete and today moves between Germany and the island. The contacts to the farms grew personally, not through a purchasing office. Anyone with a question about origin, harvest or processing gets the answer from the person who was there. Responsible under German press law, with full name and address: our legal notice. Crete-Manufacture UG (haftungsbeschränkt), founded in November 2025, registered in Remseck am Neckar, Germany. The trading side runs from Germany, the selection and the contact with the farms happen on Crete.
Our products: what we sell and why
The focus is on the region around Gouves: calcareous soils, sea breeze, more than 300 days of sunshine. Where another part of the island offers better conditions, we source from there, for example the hand-harvested sea salt from natural rock pools on the south coast. These conditions create a quality that shows: Koroneiki olive oil with a target acidity below 0.25 percent, oregano from the carvacrol-rich Greek subspecies, sea salt without any post-treatment. We deliberately sell a small, clearly defined range. Products that complement each other and together form the foundation of Cretan cooking: olive oil carries, oregano shapes, thyme adds, sea salt finishes, herbal salt connects. More on this: Cretan cuisine: the 5 most important ingredients.Directly from the producer: what that actually means
Olive oil directly from the producer is not a marketing term. It means: we know which grove the olive oil comes from, when it was harvested, how much time passed between harvest and pressing. We know the farms personally. We visit them, we taste on site and we decide together what gets bottled. That limits our quantities, and it is intended. What we offer is what is actually available and what meets our standards. Nothing beyond that. What we are building right now
Crete-Manufacture is still being built. We are finishing our online shop with a focus on transparency: origin, harvest year, acidity, all traceable. Alongside that, a recipe blog with Cretan dishes matched to our products is taking shape, and a guide with background articles on quality, origin and cultivation.
